Workers Compensation

To reform the existing workers’ compensation schemes. To promote a nationally consistent benefits structure. To promote and encourage rehabilitation programs and early return to work schemes. Injuries sustained by workers while travelling to and from work should not be included in any workers’ compensation scheme. All workers’ compensation schemes must include appropriate compensation for the injured worker and at the same time encourage the worker to remain at or return to work. Weekly benefits should take into account only the ordinary hours of work and pre injury earnings excluding overtime. Only workers who have sustained injuries that are considered as permanent or partial impairment or loss of any part of the body should be entitled to a lump sum payment. These payments must also take into account pain and suffering as a result of the injury.
